Department of Health and Human Services assistant secretary Rachel Levine suggested that hormone treatments would be required to ensure that children do not go through the "wrong puberty."

Levine, a man who began publicly identifying as a woman as an adult, was asked in a Friday interview on ABC why sex-change treatments should not be reserved for adults.

"Adolescence is hard and puberty is hard," Levine said. "What if you’re going through the wrong puberty? What if you, inside, feel that you are female but now you're going through a male puberty?"

Levine claimed "there are no medical procedures done" on "prepubertal children" but, "the standard of care allows them to explore that with therapy." Puberty blockers are administered early in puberty,

"Gender-affirming care is literally suicide prevention," Levine also said, adding that red-state bans of such treatments are are "unscientific" and "medically harmful."

Levine has been a vocal critic of restrictions on youth sex-change treatments. Last year, Levine falsely insisted: "There is no argument among medical professionals ... about the value and the importance of gender-affirming care" for children.

As 21 pediatric clinicians from nine countries wrote in a recent letter to the Wall Street Journal: "Every systematic review of evidence to date, including one published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society, has found the evidence for mental-health benefits of hormonal interventions for minors to be of low or very low certainty."

While the Biden administration last year issued guidelines endorsing puberty-blockers and hormone replacement therapy for minors that identify as transgender, more than 20 Republican-led U.S. states have banned such treatments.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that the recent Supreme Court decision to strike down racial preferences in college admissions was correctly decided.

According to a Rasmussen poll released Monday, 65 percent of likely U.S. voters approve of the Court’s decision, including 49 percent who "strongly approve." Even as President Joe Biden denounced the Court’s ruling, 52 percent of Democrats said they supported the decision, with only 39 percent opposed.

Only 28 percent of likely voters expressed disapproval, with 16 percent saying they "strongly disapproved."

Less than one-fifth of respondents said that they thought affirmative action policies had been successful.

The newly released survey is hardly an outlier. An Economist/YouGov survey published earlier this month found that 59 percent of Americans agreed with the Court’s decision. While the media were quick to portray the decision as racist, this survey also found that pluralities of blacks and Hispanics supported the decision.

Prior to the Court’s decision, the vast majority of Americans, including most Democrats, believed that universities should not consider race as a factor in college admissions.

CNN apologized Wednesday for "misgendering" transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in a segment aired Tuesday.

At the end of the segment, which included interviews with people from Nashville and Chicago about the continuing controversy surrounding Bud Light’s partnership with Mulvaney, national correspondent Ryan Young referred to Mulvaney with male pronouns.

"One bar was telling us, basically, they’re not going to serve [Bud Light]," Young said, "because they don’t like the way Dylan Mulvaney was treated after this whole controversy started."

"He of course is the transgender person they were going to sponsor and go along with, with Bud Light. They didn’t like how Bud Light didn’t stand by him after all this."

CNN anchor Kate Bolduan issued an apology the following day.

"Yesterday in a segment about transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, who was featured in Bud Light’s recent campaign, she was mistakenly referred to by the wrong pronoun and CNN aims to honor individuals’ ways of identifying themselves and we apologize for that error."

Bud Light has faced sustained backlash and boycotts after partnering with Mulvaney in early April. The brand lost its spot as America’s top-selling beer in June, with sales plummeting by over 25 percent compared to last year.

The View cohost Joy Behar said that she was "turned on" by President Joe Biden’s anger at White House staffers.

Axios reported Monday that Biden is prone to unleash his rage on "senior and lower aides alike," in contrast to his public image as a "kindly uncle."

"She’s turned on by Biden’s anger. I am too, I like it," Behar said Tuesday, in response to Fox News host Lisa Kennedy joking Monday that Biden’s reported volatility "turned me on."

"I like that, I mean, he’s such a mild-mannered sweet guy," Behar continued.

Even amid her seeming infatuation, Behar was quick to clarify her anti-racist bona fides: "He just blows off steam, his white male privilege, it’s called. Imagine if it’s a woman or a black guy doing it, not allowed."

Attractive as his foul-mouthed outbursts may be to the 80-year-old Behar, they may be another sign that Biden, also 80, is suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s, the Washington Free Beacon reported Monday.

American confidence in higher education has dropped dramatically over the past decade. Findings from a Gallup poll released Tuesday revealed that 36 percent of U.S. adults reported having "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in higher education, compared with 48 percent in 2018 and 57 percent in 2015.

Twenty-two percent of those surveyed expressed "very little" confidence in higher education, representing the second-largest group of respondents. This reflects a marked change from both 2015 and 2018, in which those reporting "very little" confidence were the smallest share of responses.

A plurality of respondents stated they have "some" confidence in higher education.

Confidence fell across the board, with only Democrats and those with postgraduate degrees retaining confidence at 50 percent or higher.

Only 19 percent of Republicans stated they had confidence in higher education, a decline of 20 points since 2018.

The shift in public opinion follows several recent high-profile incidents where left-wing campus activists have shut down conservative speakers.

In March, student protesters at Stanford Law School shouted down Judge Kyle Duncan at a Federalist Society event over his supposed animosity toward African Americans and transgender people, the Washington Free Beacon reported. In 2022, more than 100 students at Yale Law School disrupted a panel on civil liberties that featured conservative lawyer Kristen Waggoner, forcing campus police to escort the speakers to safety. Yale later barred the Free Beacon from covering a subsequent event with Waggoner on free speech.

U.S. employment growth in June fell short of expectations by tens of thousands of jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

Payrolls increased by 209,000, according to the report. That figure is well below the consensus estimates of 240,000, a possible sign of economic cooling. The June numbers mark the lowest monthly job creation rate since December 2020. The unemployment rate showed little change, dropping to 3.6 percent from the May figure of 3.7 percent.

While President Joe Biden has touted "Bidenomics" as a main aspect of his reelection campaign, multiple recent polls have found that around two-thirds of Americans are dissatisfied with the economy under Biden, the Washington Free Beacon reported. Biden in a Friday statement declared that the June jobs report represents "Bidenomics in action," saying it shows that the economy is experiencing "stable and steady growth."

Average hourly earnings remained strong, growing by 4.4 percent from last year, the report found. The biggest employment gains came in government, which added over 60,000 jobs, mostly at state and local levels. Other sectors experiencing strong growth include the health care and construction industries.

In keeping with trends from the past few months, the leisure and hospitality sector experienced slow growth, adding just 21,000 jobs. The retail and transportation sectors, meanwhile, lost workers.

President Joe Biden appeared to call the Supreme Court's legitimacy into question after the Court ruled that the use of race-based affirmative action in university admissions is unconstitutional.

"This is not a normal Court," Biden stated Thursday in response to a reporter who asked if he thought the justices had gone "rogue."

Biden's comments came after he gave a speech criticizing the Supreme Court's ruling. In the case, Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, the Court ruled that colleges and universities can no longer use race-based admissions programs, with Chief Justice John Roberts writing that racial admissions preferences "cannot be reconciled with the guarantees of the Equal Protection Clause." The vast majority of Americans, including around 60 percent of Democrats, agree, according to a New York Times poll.

The reporter in her question referenced the Congressional Black Caucus's statement on the ruling, which said the Court "has thrown into question its own legitimacy."

Biden's statement casting doubt on the Court's integrity comes after numerous outlets and academics said that former president Donald Trump threatened democracy and the rule of law in the wake of his indictment.

While Biden has touted his support for the rule of law, he is facing his own legal challenges. In recent days, the president angrily denied knowing of his son Hunter's threatening 2017 texts to a Chinese businessman. Hunter Biden claimed that he was with his father when he wrote the texts, the Washington Free Beacon reported. Two of Hunter Biden's former business partners have said the president was directly involved in negotiations with the Chinese businessman's company.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has made personnel changes in the highest ranks of the Russian military following the Wagner Group’s mutiny last week.

Sergei Surovikin, a senior general who had previously supported Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, has not been seen since Saturday morning, when the rebellion began.

The New York Times, citing U.S. officials, reported that Surovikin had prior knowledge of the mutiny, leading some to suspect that he is being interrogated about whether he helped to plan the rebellion. Surovkin, who had previously served as the leader of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine before being demoted in January, was the main point of contact between Wagner and the Kremlin.

Surovikin was last seen telling Wagner fighters to stand down in a video message. Surovikin appeared unhappy as he denounced the mercenaries, leading one official to liken it to a "hostage video," according to the Times.

Russian security forces have also begun "shaking down sympathizers and those who violated their oath," a source close to Prigozhin told the Financial Times.

Putin is, however, rewarding his allies in the wake of the insurrection. Longtime loyalist Viktor Zolotov’s National Guard received heavy artillery and tanks and will play a larger role in the invasion.

Additionally, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and General Valery Gerasimov, who replaced Surovikin as top commander in January, have reportedly seen their influence increase in recent days.

Presidential hopeful Tim Scott is quickly becoming many Republican voters' second choice in the 2024 primary, overtaking fellow candidates Nikki Haley and Mike Pence.

An NBC News poll released Sunday showed that 12 percent of Republican voters favor Scott as their second choice in the primary, an increase of 9 points since April. Scott has surpassed Haley and Pence in this category, trailing only Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who holds 31 percent of the second-place vote.

The South Carolina senator received only 3 percent of the first-choice vote, the same amount that he did in April. These numbers are consistent with nationwide polling, with the RealClearPolitics average showing Scott with 3.5 percent of the Republican primary vote.

Scott also has the third-highest favorability among the current crop of candidates, trailing only DeSantis and former president Donald Trump. Forty-six percent of GOP voters view him positively, compared with 6 percent who view him negatively. Thirty-four percent, however, say they still do not know enough about him to make a judgment.

Trump's first-choice poll numbers increased following his indictment this month, with 51 percent of Republican voters rating him as their first choice, the poll found. DeSantis's numbers, on other hand, have fallen behind since April, from 31 percent to 22 percent.

Throughout his campaign, Scott has focused on expanding opportunity for Americans, touting his rise from poverty to public office. He has faced criticism from liberal politicians and commentators for being a black Republican, notably clashing with hosts on The View over the existence of "systemic racism."

A Harvard professor who studies honesty has been accused of fabricating results in multiple papers published in peer-reviewed journals.

The Chronicle of Higher Education reported on June 16 that a 2012 paper co-written by Francesca Gino, a professor at Harvard Business School, relied on fraudulent data.

The paper purported to show that people who signed an honesty pledge at the beginning of a form were less likely to cheat on the form than those who signed at the end. The study was based on three different experiments conducted by five different researchers, which were then compiled into one paper.

One of the paper’s co-authors, Max Bazerman, told the Chronicle that Harvard University provided him with evidence proving that one of the experiments conducted had relied on fabricated data.

The paper received over 500 citations from other scholars and was even cited in a 2016 Obama administration report on social and behavioral sciences.

In 2015, the researchers wrote another paper reporting that they had been unable to replicate their results. In August 2021, a group of three other researchers posted findings on their blog showing that data for one of the experiments in the 2012 paper had been altered. A month later, the 2012 paper was retracted.

The blog, DataColada, has since posted further evidence that three other papers of which Gino was a co-author relied on falsified data and stated that they contacted Harvard Business School about their concerns in the fall of 2021. Bazerman told the Chronicle that three other papers are of "significant concern" to Harvard but declined to specify if they were the same ones identified by the blog authors.

Gino has co-authored dozens of studies on topics in behavioral science, including decision-making, leadership, as well as dishonesty and unethical behavior. She has also been a speaker and consultant to companies such as Google, Walmart, and Goldman Sachs.

She has been placed on administrative leave, according to her faculty bio. The Internet Archive shows that this was not the case as recently as mid-May.

The Washington, D.C., State Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a new K-12 social studies curriculum designed to "incorporate the histories and perspectives of historically marginalized groups."

The new standards will go into effect beginning in the 2024-25 school year. The standards, which have not been updated since 2006, have been under review since April 2020.

The Social Studies Standards Guiding Principles, released in December 2020, directed the school board to develop curriculum materials that are "actively anti-racist, and that explicitly address discrimination against traditionally marginalized groups." They also state that social studies lessons should "focus on the tenets of critical race theory (CRT) when describing power structures and systems."

Under the new curriculum, fourth-graders are expected to "evaluate the significance of 1619," an indication that the curriculum intends to reframe the narrative of American history around racial oppression. The fourth grade curriculum also refers to the "contradictions" of both the American Founders and the Declaration of Independence.

Seventh-graders are also encouraged to evaluate George Washington’s "legacy as an enslaver" while studying early American history.

When studying World War II, fifth-graders will examine the experiences of "Latinx, Indigenous, [and]  LGBTQ+" servicemen returning home after the war.

The new curriculum will also direct students to "create plans to affect [sic] change."

Fifth-graders, for example, will "develop a plan for taking action to address an issue of local, national, or global concern." Eighth-graders will learn to "use technology and online platforms for civic engagement and to drive social change."

Students in high school Government and Civics classes are required to "evaluate the effectiveness of United States Government's response to the threat of climate change, and develop a corresponding plan of action."

Such calls to action are absent from the previous guidelines.

D.C. is the latest locality to introduce an "anti-racist" curriculum. In 2020, nearby Fairfax County Public Schools revamped its history curriculum using materials developed by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Biden administration has awarded grants to fund "climate justice" curricula in elementary schools.

The National Institutes of Health has, since September 2021, been funding a $2.2 million program at the University of Miami examining how "microaggressions" affect "Black cisgender queer women" who have HIV.

According to a grant listing from the Department of Health and Human Services, the program, known as Monitoring Microaggressions and Adversities to Generate Interventions for Change, seeks to discover how "comments, jokes, and behaviors that are demeaning to a marginalized group" affect health outcomes.

Queer black women with HIV "live at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities and within social structures that take a daily toll," the grant description states. However, the impact of microaggressions on this group has "largely been ignored."

The program is supervised by Sannisha Dale, an associate professor of psychology, who chairs the department’s Diversity and Equity Committee.

Dale's first contact with the project was in 2019, according to the University’s website. Through text messages and regular visits, the grant team monitored 151 women to understand how microaggressions affected their daily levels of distress and consumption of medication.

"[Microagressions] can be someone saying, ‘She doesn’t look like she’s positive,’ as if HIV has a face," Dale said. "Or ‘I’m HIV negative, I’m clean,’ as if someone else is dirty."

The Biden administration has shown a willingness to shell out cash for LGBT initiatives. Biden’s most recent budget proposal included a $400 million State Department program to help LGBTQ Africans access the internet. In January, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded a grant to translate a gay dictionary into Spanish.

China is likely using the chaos at the southern border to send military personnel into the United States, Rep. Mark Green (R., Tenn.) announced Wednesday.

The House Homeland Security Committee chairman in a press conference said that many of the Chinese nationals apprehended at the border have "known ties to the PLA." Green claims to have obtained this information from a border patrol sector chief, and says he expects a classified briefing on the matter "in the very near future."

Green went on to say that the Chinese nationals had been released into the United States after crossing the border, without any verification of identity. "We have no idea who these people are, and it’s very likely, using Russia’s template of sending military personnel into Ukraine, China is doing the same into the United States," he continued.

Border Patrol has seen a surge of migrants from China attempting to cross into the United States. Since January, they have encountered nearly 8,000 Chinese nationals at the southern border, already more than quadruple the number from fiscal year 2022, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

In fiscal year 2023, Border Patrol has also apprehended 98 people on the FBI’s terror watch list, including 16 in the month of February alone.

Three-quarters of Asian Americans oppose race-based college admissions, according to a poll released days before the Supreme Court is expected to rule on affirmative action.

The Pew Research survey, published Thursday, found that 76 percent of Asian Americans believe colleges should not consider race or ethnicity when making admissions decisions.

Just over half of Asian Americans who have heard of affirmative action have a favorable view of it, while only 19 percent say it is a bad thing, per the poll. When asked directly about the use of race to screen college applicants, however, only 21 percent say they are in favor.

The poll results come as the Supreme Court is preparing to rule on two affirmative action challenges that the group Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) brought against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. In oral arguments, the majority-conservative Court appeared ready to overturn previous rulings that permit colleges to use race as a factor in admissions.

SFFA has argued that Harvard in its admissions process specifically discriminated against Asian Americans, who as a group are academic overachievers.

The Pew results are in line with other surveys. A 2022 Washington Post poll found that 65 percent of Asian Americans support banning colleges and universities from considering race, along with 63 percent of all U.S. adults.

"Overall, majorities of Asian adults across gender, age, education, and origin groups say race or ethnicity should not factor into college admissions," the Pew survey states. Clear majorities across the political spectrum opposed race-based college admissions, with 90 percent of Asian Republicans saying race should not be a factor, along with 69 percent of Asian Democrats.

According to the Pew survey, 87 percent of respondents say that high school grades should be considered. Seventy-one percent say standardized test scores and community service should play roles in admissions decisions.

Asian-American views on the issue reflect the views of Americans in general. Eighty-two percent of U.S. adults believe colleges should not consider race in admissions decisions, the survey found.

A federal judge in Washington State ruled Monday that a women-only nude spa must accept biological men who identify as transgender but still have penises.

U.S. District Court judge Barbara Jacobs Rothstein upheld a ruling by the Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) that required Olympus Spa to modify its women-only rule to accommodate "trans women" who have male genitalia.

Haven Wilvich, a local trans activist, filed the initial complaint with the commission in February 2020, alleging that the spa had denied his membership application. After being served with a Notice of Complaint of Discrimination, spa president Sun Lee responded, saying the spa had no documentation showing that Wilvich had attempted to use their facilities. The spa also defended its female-only rule, stating it was "essential for the safety, legal protection, and well-being of our customers" and in accordance with its Christian values.

The family-owned spa, which is modeled on traditional sex-segregated Korean bathhouses, already accepts trans women who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery. The WSHRC stated that this policy was discriminatory because it "focuses on the genitals of patrons" rather than "gender identity."

In response to the ruling, the spa sued, saying the commission had violated its First Amendment rights. While Rothstein ruled against the spa, she gave Olympus 30 days to amend and refile its complaint to her dismissal order.

The ruling comes as biological males are increasingly being permitted to enter female-only spaces. The Biden administration's proposed Title IX rules would effectively force schools to permit biological males who identify as female to use women's bathrooms and locker rooms.

The Portland, Ore., City Council voted Wednesday to ban camping on city property during the daytime, revising previous laws that had prohibited camping at all times in order to comply with state legislation set to go into effect next month.

The ordinance prohibits camping on public property, including parks and sidewalks, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, and bans blocking access to private businesses and private property. It also prohibits camping near schools, parks, and officially sanctioned homeless shelters at all times. If someone violates this ordinance three times, they could be forced to pay a $100 fine or face prison time for up to 30 days.

The city had previously barred camping on all public property, likely violating a state law passed in 2021, which requires cities to create "objectively reasonable" guidelines about what people can do on public property. Portland city attorneys believe the new ordinance will meet the requirements of the 2021 law, which goes into effect July 1, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported. Under the previous ordinance, homelessness increased by over 50 percent between 2019 and 2022.

The ordinance sparked contentious debate at a city council meeting last week. Mayor Ted Wheeler contended that the restrictions were necessary to address the homelessness crisis, which he called a "humanitarian catastrophe."

In May, the city agreed to remove at least 500 camps after facing a lawsuit from residents who claimed that the city’s failure to remove the camps had violated their rights to access the sidewalk under the Americans with Disabilities and Rehabilitation Acts.

Several businesses, including REI, Cracker Barrel, and others have closed locations in Portland in the past year.

Indiana prosecutors charged a man for intimidation and harassment of Rep. Jim Banks (R., Ind.) and his family.

Aaron L. Thompson, 34, allegedly called Banks’s office eight times in early April and left several threatening messages, according to a probable cause filing obtained by the Indiana Capital Chronicle.

"Here’s the choice. Your daughters grow up without their dad or you grow old without your daughters," the Fort Wayne man said. "Boom, boom you pick."

Thompson told Banks he owned a gun and said he hoped Banks would die in a car accident or have "his brains blown-out."

In an interview with U.S. Capitol Police, Thompson admitted to being intoxicated and said he left the messages due to disagreement with Banks’s political views.

He was arrested Friday and scheduled for an initial hearing on Tuesday at Allen County Superior Court. In Indiana, intimidation is a felony and harassment is a misdemeanor. If convicted, Thompson could face up to two and half years in prison.

Banks, who has served in Congress since 2017, announced in January his bid for Senate, shortly after Sen. Mike Braun (R., Ind.) launched his run for governor.
